About You Fly LA

You Fly LA does one thing: first flights. We put people who have never flown an airplane in the pilot's seat of one, over Los Angeles, with an instructor beside them, and we do it every day of the week.

Why only discovery flights

Flight schools sell discovery flights as a way to recruit students, and it shows: the flight is an afterthought to the sales pitch. We think the first flight deserves to be the whole point. So our instructors fly first flights all day, our briefings are written for people who've never seen a cockpit, our routes are chosen for what you'll see, and nobody hands you a brochure afterward. If you want to keep going, we'll tell you where.

The people

Our instructors are FAA-certificated flight instructors who have spent years teaching at Van Nuys, one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world. They've flown thousands of first flights between them and they still like watching the moment someone realizes they're flying.

The airplanes

A Piper Warrior for most flights and a Cirrus SR22 for the luxury flight, both maintained on the field to FAA standards, plus an FAA-approved Redbird full-motion simulator. More about the aircraft.

The airport

Van Nuys, in the San Fernando Valley, ten minutes from Sherman Oaks and Burbank, with the Hollywood Sign, downtown and the Malibu coast all within a short flight. Why we fly from here.
