From the northern half of 91602, Vineland Ave north to Victory Blvd does the same job with one fewer turn. Magnolia Blvd west is a pleasant third option through Valley Village if you are not in a hurry and you are willing to stop at every second block.
The freeway version — the 134 west into the 101, then the 405 north to Roscoe Blvd — swings south around the hills and is genuinely fast on a Sunday morning.
