The Cirrus SR22 is the airplane people picture when they imagine owning one: a glass cockpit with two large screens, a sidestick instead of a yoke, leather seats, air conditioning, and a parachute built into the airframe. Why the Cirrus
- Comfort. Air conditioning on the ground and in the air, wide leather seats, and a quiet cabin. On a summer afternoon in the Valley this matters.
- The cockpit. Two big glass displays show the map, the traffic and the terrain. Your instructor will show you how pilots actually use them.
- Room. The weight limit is 200 lb per person rather than 180 lb, and the back seat is a real seat.
- Speed. The SR22 cruises far faster than a trainer, so an hour covers more of the city: the Hollywood Sign and downtown and a run along the coast are all possible in one flight.
- CAPS. Every Cirrus carries a whole-airplane parachute system. You'll never need it; nervous passengers like knowing it's there.
Your route
Agreed in the briefing. The default is the best of both: east along the Mulholland ridge to the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory and the downtown skyline, then west over the Sepulveda Pass to Santa Monica Bay and up the coast toward Malibu before returning across the mountains to Van Nuys. Prefer all coast or all city? Say so.
Who flies
One of you sits in the left seat and flies most of the flight; the other rides in the back with a headset. Decide in the briefing. To both fly, book two flights back to back.

- Check-in and briefing (about 25 minutes), including a walk-through of the glass cockpit.
- Walk-around (10 minutes).
- Taxi and takeoff, flown and narrated by your instructor.
- 60 minutes of flight with you on the sidestick.
- Landing, debrief, signed logbook entry. About two hours at the airport.

Requirements
- No experience, license or medical required
- No minimum age; children ride or fly with a parent's blessing and the instructor's judgment

Questions
Is the Cirrus harder to fly than the trainer?
No. The sidestick is lighter than a yoke and the airplane is very stable. What's different is how much you'll cover in an hour.
Can a third person come?
The SR22 has four seats, so an extra passenger is possible subject to weight and balance; ask when you book and see groups and events.
Can I add more time?
Yes: call (818) 330-1318 to extend to 90 minutes, which is enough for the full coast to Point Dume and the city on the same flight.
