N3034Q — Piper Warrior PA-28-161: Rates, Equipment And Availability

N3034Q is one of the two Piper Warrior PA-28-161s You Fly LA operates from Van Nuys Airport, and it costs $269 per hour wet at retail or $179 per hour wet inside a course package. It is a four-seat, low-wing trainer with a 160-horsepower Lycoming, an IFR-equipped panel and a cruise of about 128 knots.

What follows is the record for this airframe rather than a manual: rates, the flying it is used for, what renting it requires and how to book it. The whole fleet with rates alongside is on the airplanes you will fly, and the type reference — model history, V-speeds, how to read a performance chart — is the Piper Warrior PA-28-161 page.

Those are type-level figures, published because they are what we operate to. Empty weight, useful load and the exact equipment fit belong to the individual airplane and appear only in the weight and balance section of the handbook carried aboard it. On a four-seat airplane that distinction is not academic, because empty weight is what decides whether four adults and useful fuel is a legal load or a wish.

What It Costs To Fly N3034Q

Hourly Rates For N3034Q And Instruction In 2026
Item Rate When It Applies

Wet means fuel is included and nothing is added afterwards. The Warrior costs the same per hour as our two-seat Skycatchers, which is unusual and worth knowing: four seats and 60 more horsepower for the same money. Every rate we charge is published together on flight school rates at Van Nuys.

What N3034Q Is Flown For

Private pilot training first, instrument training second, and discovery flights in between. The Warrior is the airplane most first-time visitors fly here, because it has a door on one side, a wing you walk up onto, and two front seats with a good view forward over a low cowling. It is also the airplane that carries the 180-pound-per-person weight limit on our single-seat discovery flights and the 360-pound combined limit on the for-two flights.

The Private Pilot Syllabus In A Four-Seat Cherokee

Every item in 14 CFR 61.109(a) can be flown in this airplane: 40 hours total, 20 of them dual and 10 solo, with 3 hours of cross-country training, 3 hours of night training that includes a cross-country of more than 100 nautical miles and 10 takeoffs and landings at a towered airport, 3 hours of instrument training, 3 hours of test preparation in the two calendar months before the practical test, and a solo block containing 5 hours of cross-country and one flight of at least 150 nautical miles with three full-stop landings.

The Warrior earns its place in that syllabus at the cross-country end. At about 128 knots with four seats, the 150-nautical-mile solo is a comfortable morning rather than an expedition, and the airplane can carry an instructor, a student and enough fuel for a diversion without arithmetic gymnastics. The low wing changes the sight picture in the flare and the stall feels different from a high-wing trainer, which is worth an hour of adjustment and nothing more.

Where it really pays off is after the checkride. A newly certificated private pilot who trained in a two-seater has to check out in something else before taking family flying; a pilot who trained in N3034Q simply books the same airplane. The full route to the certificate, with costs, is on the private pilot license page.

Checking Out To Rent N3034Q

To fly this airplane solo you need a pilot certificate with the appropriate privileges, a current FAA medical certificate or BasicMed qualification, and a flight review completed since the beginning of the 24th calendar month before the month of the flight, under 14 CFR 61.56. To carry passengers, 14 CFR 61.57(a) requires three takeoffs and three landings within the preceding 90 days in the same category, class and type, and at night 61.57(b) requires those three to be to a full stop between one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise.

Our checkout adds ground instruction on systems and limitations and a flight with one of our instructors before the sign-off goes in your file. Pilots arriving from high-wing trainers spend most of that flight on the sight picture rather than on systems. What we ask for is listed on aircraft checkout requirements for renters.

How To Book N3034Q

Call (818) 330-1318 and ask for N3034Q by registration. We schedule by airframe, so naming the tail number is a normal request. With only two Warriors on the line this type books further ahead than the Skycatchers, particularly at weekends, so give the desk as much notice as you can. Maintenance can take an airplane off the schedule at short notice, and the live schedule is the real answer.

If you have not flown a small airplane before, a discovery flight is the right first booking: $229 for 60 minutes in this type with you flying from the left seat, credited in full toward training if you enroll within 24 hours.

Where The Registration Details Come From

This page publishes our operating specification and our rates. The registration record — make and model as registered, registrant, airworthiness class and certificate dates — belongs to the FAA and is public. Check it in the FAA aircraft registry entry for N3034Q, or search any N-number at registry.faa.gov. The registry is the source of record.

N3034Q FAQ

What Kind Of Airplane Is N3034Q?

A Piper Warrior PA-28-161: a four-seat, low-wing trainer with a 160-horsepower Lycoming engine, an IFR-equipped panel and a cruise of about 128 knots. It is one of two Warriors on the You Fly LA line at Van Nuys Airport.

How Much Does N3034Q Cost Per Hour?

$179 per hour wet inside a course package and $269 per hour wet at retail, with an instructor at $110 per hour on top for dual flights. That is the same hourly rate as our two-seat Skycatchers.

Can Four People Fly In It?

It has four seats, but the legal answer depends on weight. Empty weight varies between individual airframes, so four adults and full fuel is often outside the envelope. Work it out from the weight and balance section of the handbook aboard the airplane before you plan the flight.

Is This The Discovery Flight Airplane?

Yes, the Warrior is the type used for our standard discovery flights, with a 180-pound limit per person on the single flight and 360 pounds combined on the flight for two.

Can I Do My Whole Private Pilot Certificate In It?

Yes. Every requirement in 14 CFR 61.109(a), including the night cross-country and the 150-nautical-mile solo, can be flown in a Warrior, and four seats mean you can carry family the day after your checkride without a second checkout.

Is It Suitable For Instrument Training?

Yes. The airplane is IFR-equipped and is used for instrument training here alongside the Redbird MCX full-motion simulator, which can supply up to 20 of the 40 dual hours the rating requires.

How Far Ahead Should I Book It?

Further than you would a Skycatcher. There are two Warriors and five Skycatchers, so Warrior slots at weekends and in the evenings go first. Call (818) 330-1318 and ask for the tail number.
