Spin Training And CFI Spin Endorsement

$2,000.00

Spin training for the flight instructor endorsement required by 14 CFR 61.183(i), flown in the Diamond DA20-C1 at Van Nuys Airport. The regulation asks for instructional proficiency in stall awareness, spin entry, spins and spin recovery, given in an airplane certificated for spins. This course delivers both: the flying, and the ability to teach it.

What Is Included

  • 3 hours in the Diamond DA20-C1, operated in the utility category and approved for intentional spins
  • 2 hours in the Redbird MCX full-motion simulator, where entries and badly handled recoveries can be flown, frozen and discussed
  • Classroom instruction: spin aerodynamics, the regulation, the recovery procedure, and the lesson plan you will teach from
  • The 14 CFR 61.183(i)(1) logbook endorsement on satisfactory completion

How It Runs

Typically two or three days. Classroom first, then simulator, then the aircraft sessions building from stall awareness through incipient spins to developed spins and recoveries, finishing with you demonstrating and narrating from the right seat. The endorsement is given when you meet the standard, not when the hours run out.

Who It Is For

Flight instructor candidates, including pilots training at other schools who need the endorsement. Private and commercial pilots also take it purely for stall and spin awareness, which is time well spent.

Good To Know

  • No parachutes are required or used. 14 CFR 91.307(d) excepts spins required by the regulations for a certificate or rating when given by a certificated flight instructor.
  • Additional DA20-C1 time, if you want it, is $229 per hour at the package rate plus $110 per hour for the instructor.
  • This is a spin and stall awareness course. It is not an aerobatic course.
  • Bring your certificate, medical and logbook to the first session.
